Experimental and theoretical investigation of the multiple phonon excitation of monolayer film modes with helium atom scattering: KrÕPt„111..

چکیده
Energy resolved helium atom scattering results for the multiple excitation of the perpendicular vibrations ~S modes! of a krypton monolayer adsorbed on Pt~111! are presented for a wide range of incident angles. These measurements, which were obtained for incident helium atom energies much greater than the fundamental S-mode energy, are modeled within a general multiphonon scattering theory using a simple scattering form factor for a repulsive potential. The good agreement between experiment and theory indicates that the details of the He-surface interaction potential are relatively unimportant for incident energies much higher than the vibrational energy.

Excitation of the shear horizontal mode in a monolayer by inelastic helium atom scattering.
Inelastic scattering of a low-energy atomic helium beam (HAS) by a physisorbed monolayer is treated in the one-phonon approximation using a time-dependent wave packet formulation. The calculations show that modes with shear horizontal polarization can be excited near high symmetry azimuths of the monolayer, in agreement with recent experiments. The parameters of the calculations are chosen to m...
متن کاملGraphene on Ni(111): Electronic Corrugation and Dynamics from Helium Atom Scattering
Using helium atom scattering, we have studied the structure and dynamics of a graphene layer prepared in situ on a Ni(111) surface. Graphene/Ni(111) exhibits a helium reflectivity of ∼20% for a thermal helium atom beam and a particularly small surface electron density corrugation ((0.06 ± 0.02) Å peak to peak height). The Debye-Waller attenuation of the elastic diffraction peaks of graphene/Ni(...

We present a theoretical analysis of the multiphonon features appearing in the angular and energy resolved scattering spectra of low energy He atoms inelastically scattered from surface phonons. By applying the recently developed fully quantum multiphonon scattering formalism to the benchmark system Xe(111) we are able to reproduce with great accuracy the experimental data and also demonstrate ...
متن کاملSynthesis and investigation of thermal conductivity carbon nanotubes: MWCNT and SWCNT
In this study, Bio-based carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have received considerable research attention due to their comparative advantages of high level stability, simplistic use, low toxicity and overall environmental friendliness. New potentials for improvement in heat transfer applications are presented due to their high aspect ratio, high thermal conductivity and special surface area. Phonons have ...

A combined He-atom scattering and theoretical study of the low energy vibrations of physisorbed monolayers of Xe on Cu(111) and Cu(001) Abstract The surface phonon dispersion curves of commensurate Xe monolayers on Cu(111) and incommensurate Xe monolayers on Cu(001) surfaces have been measured using He atom scattering (HAS) time of flight (TOF) spectroscopy. The TOF spectra are interpreted by c...
